New Jersey Devils Facing Criticism From Fans for Leaving New Overseas Player to Fend for Himself in Public
The New Jersey Devils are facing criticism after Arseni Gritsyuk, who they took in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, is apparently being left to fend for himself when it comes to translation of a new language.
The
New Jersey Devils took Arseni Gritsyuk with the 129th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and he's played the last 2 years in the KHL in his native Russia with SKA St. Petersburg.
He's now in the NHL, having played both games for the Devils so far this year. But being a native Russian who doesn't yet speak English strongly, he's apparently having some difficulties adjusting to the new culture he's in.
He made a post on social media in which he was apparently left to fend for himself on the road for meals:
How unusual is it that here on away games teams don't have proper meals like KHL teams do, and you have to go somewhere for lunch or dinner, but it wouldn't be a problem if I understood what and where things are, and for now I wandered into some food court and this is what I found for myself. I think it's something like ramen ))) Well it looks pretty good, let's try it.

The post is drawing criticism, not on Gritsyuk's part but apparently that the Devils aren't offering assistance to their new player who is new to the language and culture of his new professional surroundings.

Gritsyuk played in various leagues in Russia, and has spent the last 2 years with SKA St. Petersburg in the KHL before transitioning to North America.
He's already played the first 2 games of his NHL career with the Devils; last year in the KHL, he had 44 points (17G, 27A) in 49 games.
So far with the Devils, he already has a pair of assists.
