The San Jose Sharks have a young, up-and-coming squad, and on Sunday they made the shock decision to waive not just one, but two players.
Through two games this season, the San Jose Sharks sit winless, but both matchups have been tight, high-scoring affairs that have resulted in one-goal losses to the Vegas Golden Knights and Anaheim Ducks.
With their young core, these performances thus far have been very promising, and with the group being led by
Macklin Celebrini, the future is certainly looking very bright in San Jose.
San Jose Sharks Surprisingly Waive Two Players
However, on Sunday, the team made a surprise decision to waive not one, but two players, as the team reportedly moved on from two defenseman in
Lucas Carlsson and
Jack Thompson, according to Elliotte Friedman.
In Carlsson, the Sharks landed a solid player in 2024/25, playing 13 games for the team, but after spending much of his season down in the AHL with the San Jose Barracuda, the expectation was for him to end up down there again.
As for Thompson, he has spent the last two seasons with the Sharks, appearing in 33 games in that time, but like Carlsson, he has spent the majority of his time in the organization with the Barracuda, with the 23-year old still having a bright future.
As a result of his age, there's a good chance that Thompson will get claimed by a rival team, but given how productive they've both been down in the AHL, the Sharks will be hoping they can clear and continue to provide good organizational depth in the coming seasons.
