NHL analyst Pierre LeBrun has stunningly tied Florida Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, a pending UFA, to a specific Canadian team if he were to be moved.
The defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers are still in the mix for a spot in the postseason after last night's dominating win over the divisional foe Toronto Maple Leafs.
But right now, a spot in the playoffs to defend their two straight Stanley Cups isn't guaranteed, and there's a chance they could fall out of the race. They have multiple pending UFAs on their roster, including goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.
Per a report from NHL analyst Craig Button, if Bobrovsky were to be moved by the Panthers, the Montreal Canadiens could be a good fit in his mind.
Montreal Canadiens, you look at the Montreal Canadiens this year, and their goaltending has not been strong enough as recently as their last game versus the Islanders, Samuel Montembeault was not good enough. When I look at Sergei Bobrovsky's resume, as recent as last June when he led the Panthers to the Stanley Cup, that's the type of player - been that, done that, won that. And the Montreal Canadiens could benefit from Sergei Bobrovsky. - Craig Button
So far this year, Bobrovsky has gone 22-17-1 with a .874 save percentage for the injury-riddled Panthers.
Panthers Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky Is A Pending UFA After This Year
NHL analyst Pierre LeBrun, when writing about Bobrovsky's future with the Panthers, said that he doesn't foresee an extension coming any time soon.
I don't see an extension coming in the near future. I'm sure it's something the Panthers will look at after the season, but I'm not sure why it would prudent to do it in-season when Bobrovsky isn't having a good year. And he's 37. There's no rush to get into that conversation.
But imagine if the Panthers decide they're sellers next week and the two-time Cup champion goalie is suddenly available on Thursday or Friday. His $10 million cap hit wouldn't be easy to absorb, but I can think of a few teams that might pick up the phone. - Pierre LeBrun

The trade deadline this year is March 6.
