The IIHF has admitted that a mistake was made by the officials during yesterday's game between Team Canada and Team Czechia on Czechia’s third goal of the afternoon.
Team Canada managed to avoid what would have been a humiliating and historic loss yesterday against Team Czechia.
Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki tied the game late in the third period, and then ex-Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner scored the OT GWG to give Canada the win.
But there was controversy as evidenced by the video replay on Czechia forward Ondrej Palat’s goal in the third period that gave them a 3-2 lead. Replays shows that Czechia had six skaters on the ice, and that the goal should technically have been disallowed.
Now, the IIHF is admitting a mistake was made per a report from NHL analyst Pierre LeBrun.
Asked the IIHF for comment on the missed call, 6 Czechs skaters on the ice for their 3-2 goal. An IIHF spokesperson today said they reviewed it and obviously saw what we all saw, there was a missed called there. The IIHF says they went through a thorough process to select the on-officials for this tournament, the best of the best are here. But mistakes happen. The spokesperson said everyone involved has regrouped and are focusing on the rest of the tournament. - Pierre LeBrun
Sidney Crosby’s Status Is Expected To Be Announced Soon
Canada captain Sidney Crosby was hurt and was shown barely being able to walk properly off the ice as he went to the locker room.
Head coach Jon Cooper didn’t immediately have an update on Crosby’s availability for the rest of the Olympics, but an update is expected soon.
Canada has yet to lose a game in the Olympics when Crosby plays, so if he missed time, it would be a considerable blow.
