Finland coach reveals how he plans to slow down Connor McDavid
Connor McDavid has been on fire at the Olympics, and now the coach of Finland has revealed he'll call a familiar face for advice on how to slow him down.
The 2026 Olympic Games saw arguably the best day in tournament history on Wednesday, with three of the four quarterfinals matchups going to overtime, with Canada advancing to take on Finland in the semifinals.
With Sidney Crosby going down, more and more has now been put on the shoulders of Connor McDavid, with the Oilers captain now putting up 11 points through his first four games at the Olympics.
Finland reveal plan to slow down Connor McDavid
Much like in the NHL, it appears as though there's simply no way to stop 97, so teams will likely just try to limit his involvements and put more pressure on him in hopes that his teammates can't do much to help him out.
Obviously, any hopes of doing this are much, much easier said than done, but in his latest interview, Finland Head Coach Antti Pennanen was highly complimentary of McDavid, revealing that he's going to call Aleksander Barkov for advice on how to slow him down.
Barkov, he going to help me about that... I should call Sasha & he can give some advice.
This comes after the Florida Panthers, led by Finnish star Aleksander Barkov have taken down McDavid and the Oilers in back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals, but unfortunately for Finland, they don't quite have the depth and stars that the Panthers team does.
Also aiding McDavid here is arguably the most star studded team ever put together in hockey, so there's much more support around him than he would usually have with the Oilers.
Ultimately, as of right now, there's no one better on the planet than Connor McDavid, and if he finds his best game when it matters most, Canada's chances for gold rise exponentially, but if Barkov can find some secret to slowing him down, he'll no doubt let Finland know about it.
