Jon Cooper reveals major update on Sidney Crosby's status for the Olympics
After going down against Czechia, some believed Sidney Crosby would be out for the Olympics, but now, an update from Jon Cooper is seemingly a positive one.
Team Canada came into the 2026 Olympics, along with the rest of the hockey world, believing that they were the gold medal favourite, and through three group stage games, they proved everyone right.
However, they got a major challenge in the quarterfinals against Czechia, who pushed them to the limit as it took a Mitch Marner overtime winner to secure Canada a spot in the medal rounds.
It wasn't without controversy however, as there was a major missed call that allowed Czechia to score, and with Sidney Crosby going down and not returning to the game, things could have gone awfully wrong for Canada.
Jon Cooper provides update on Sidney Crosby
Unfortunately, with No. 87 not returning, some believed he could be out for the remainder of the tournament, but now Head Coach Jon Cooper has provided an update, revealing that it's more than a stinger, but ultimately, doesn't rule Crosby out for the tournament as they are taking it day-by-day.
We got the best of the best looking at him…We're taking this day by day, and we're not going to put anybody in harm's way. But if he can play, he's definitely going to. We’ll know more again in 24 hours.
Even without Crosby, this is a team loaded with talent, and even against Finland, there's optimism they could battle without their superstar captain, but as of right now, their gold medal hopes could change drastically in the next 24 hours as we wait for the next major update.
