TSN reports Sidney Crosby’s fate against Finland
Sidney Crosby's status may change Canada's fate in this Olympics, and against Finland in the semifinals, it's now being reported that he's unlikely to play.
The 2026 Olympic Games was the return of the best-on-best to the format, and also, it may be the last in Sidney Crosby's iconic career, barring a return in 2030 when he will be over 40-years of age.
After a red-hot run through the group stages, the team encountered Czechia in the quarterfinals, and while they escaped with an overtime victory thanks to Mitch Marner, they've also got a major injury to Sidney Crosby to worry about.
He left the game in the second period and did not return, and unfortunately, speculation online has been that he may be done for the tournament, although Head Coach Jon Cooper has not yet ruled him out for Team Canada.
Sidney Crosby 'unlikely' to play against Finland
Now, with less than 24 hours to go until Canada match up against Finland in their semifinals game, Ryan Rishaug of TSN has reported that while Crosby isn't ruled out for the tournament, he's considered 'unlikely' to play against Finland on Friday.
If this is the case, it will mean Montreal's Nick Suzuki, who was also a hero in that matchup against Czechia with a game-tying goal late in the third period will likely step into Crosby's role, and given the pressure that other lines are under to produce, it may be the biggest game of his career.
With all of the hype around this roster heading into the tournament, they'll remain confident they can get the job done even without 87, but there's no doubting that if he does miss this one, Canada's chances at gold take a drastic hit.
