We Now Know Jack Campbell's Next Team

On Tuesday, the Edmonton Oilers made the announcement that they had released goaltender Jack Campbell, just five starts into his second season with the club.

Last season, the netminder started 34 games for the club and appeared in 36 after signing a five-year, $25-million deal. He was 21-9-4 with a 3.41 GAA in the regular season, but one just one game in the postseason and appeared in three others in relief of Stuart Skinner.

This season the netminder had a 1-4-0 record with a 4.50 GAA and .873 save percentage for a squad that has allowed 47 goals through 11 games, tied for second most goals allowed in the NHL.


Daily Faceoff insider Frank Seravelli reported that the Oilers are expected to replace Campbell with Cal Pickard of the AHL's Bakersfield Condors, who has a .939% save percentage to start the year.

Philadelphia interested in Campbell's services

Shortly after that news broke, Anthony DiMarco, lead NHL reporter for The Fourth Period alluded to the Philadelphia Flyers becoming a landed spot for Campbell if the pieces fit.


It would likely take the Oilers eating some of Campbell's contract to get things done, but the Flyers seem, at the very least, willing to get into discussions, as they sit sixth in the Metropolitan with 11 points.

Philadelphia's goaltending has a combined .881 save percentage this season.
