With another loss to the Canucks last night, the Edmonton Oilers have continued their rough start to the season.
Oilers Frustration Showing After Poor Start to Season
The Edmonton Oilers were considered a cup contender at the start of the season, but after a 2-8-1 start things are not going the way many expected. Frustrations from their star players and Head Coach were shown in last nights game to the Canucks.
McDavid & Draisaitl become unraveled at the end of the game, both getting sent to the penalty box 😳
Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft was ejected with 6:47 left in the third
All eyes are on the Oilers to see if this team will battle back or have one of the biggest flops in NHL history. Connor Mcdavid who is known to dominate and tear up the league in scoring has only four even strength points.
Despite coming out of the gates strong against the Canucks, three quick unanswered goals put the Oilers in a rough spot to battle back from.
Why Have the Oilers Been so Bad to Start the Season?
Many fans have begun wondering what the Oilers are missing to be the cup contenders that they were expected to be this season. The one thing that has been a glaring issue for the Oilers is lack of goaltending.
McDavid called out his goalies after the 6-2 loss last night saying they aren't getting the saves they need.
"No one's in here is saying, 'We've got to turn more pucks over, or give up more two-on-ones and three-on-twos.' But for whatever reason, they're going in. They're going in off us, they're going in every which way." -

The Oilers have a team save percentage of 0.861 which is the worst in the league, even the winless San Jose Sharks have a better save percentage than this years Edmonton Oilers.
Jack Campbell and
Stuart Skinner are the key to the Oilers success or failure. If they continue to play like this, the Oilers will miss the playoffs but if they can turn their seasons around the Oilers may be able to return to winning.
