The San Jose Sharks are a young, rising team, but on Friday, they made the shock move to trade young blue liner Kyle Masters to the Carolina Hurricanes.

The San Jose Sharks have built one of the most promising young cores in the entire NHL, and led by Macklin Celebrini, this is a team that has an incredibly bright future moving forward.
However, there are some players that won't be around for the long haul, and that includes Kyle Masters, former fourth-round pick of the Minnesota Wild following a surprise trade on Friday.

Hurricanes acquire Kyle Masters for a draft pick

Following some other trade action on Friday, the Hurricanes officially acquired the 22-year old, giving up a 2027 fifth-round pick in the deal, with the Sharks giving up a fourth-round pick as well in the deal.
Despite being drafted back in 2021, Masters is yet to make it to the National Hockey League, and this season, he's put up just 3 assists and a -8 differential in 10 games played for the ECHL's Wichita Thunder.
The Sharks originally acquired Masters from Minnesota back in October in a deal involving Oskar Olausson, but without seeing the AHL for the Sharks, it was clear that they were ready to move on from him.
At 22-years of age, Masters still has plenty of time to grow and develop, but with little production even at the ECHL level, we will have to wait and see whether or not he becomes a good fit within this Hurricanes organization following the trade.
This move also opens up a permanent roster spot in the Sharks organization for Michael Misa following his appearance at the World Juniors, and given how important he is to their future, that's another layer that just made this trade an obvious one for the Sharks.
