Jordan Binnington's days in St. Louis may be numbered after latest report
Jordan Binnington might be playing his final games for the St. Louis Blues as the trade deadline approaches and the Olympics loom.
The Blues have a goalie problem that is getting impossible to ignore in the Central Division standings. They spent a third-round pick (88th overall) on Binnington back in 2011 and he eventually delivered a historic Stanley Cup.
But the 2025-26 season has been a total nightmare for the veteran goalie. He has struggled to find any rhythm while posting only 8 wins in 31 starts this year.
A .866 save percentage is a massive anchor for a team that is currently getting crushed on most nights. He needs to start earning that premium price tag before the front office loses all patience.
And Joel Hofer is making the trade decision very easy for Doug Armstrong. While the veteran falters, Hofer is proving he can handle the heavy lifting in the dirty areas.
Hofer has already grabbed 12 wins in 30 games and leads the team with 4 shutouts this season. He is a total steal for this roster and looks like the clear future of the organization.
The trade market for goalies is bone-dry right now and contenders are getting desperate for a save.
Joel Hofer is ready to take the throne in St. Louis
Teams are always hunting for an upgrade between the pipes when the playoffs are on the line. If Binnington puts on a clinic at the Olympics for Canada, his trade value will skyrocket overnight.
St. Louis could exploit that leverage to get a massive return for a goalie who might be on the decline. Hofer is only 25 and already outperforming the guy making triple his salary.
It is time to stop working around the cap and start fixing the roster for the long haul. The Blues can't afford to get fleeced by waiting too long to move a declining veteran asset.
Fans in St. Louis have seen this movie before and they know the ending is coming soon. They don't want to watch another season go down the drain while the starter struggles.
Expect Armstrong to be active on the phones the second the gold medal game ends in Italy. The era of 'Winning it for Binny' feels like a lifetime ago for this fan base.
One big performance in Milano-Cortina could be the perfect exit strategy for number 50.
Is he done?
Maybe. But the Blues can't wait for him to find his game while the season slips away.
