Jon Cooper provides concerning update on Canadian blue liner Josh Morrissey
Josh Morrissey was injured early in Canada's first game of the Olympics, and now, it appears as though he's set to miss his second straight game on Sunday.
The 2026 Olympic Games could not have started much better for Team Canada, as they followed up a 5-0 victory over Czechia with another dominant performance on Friday, outpacing the talented Switzerland team 5-1.
With the offense, defense and goaltending all humming, hope is building in Canada for this team to win their second gold medal in a year after winning the Four Nations Face Off back in February of 2025.
However, the one major concern for this team was the injury to Winnipeg Jets blue liner Josh Morrissey, who departed their first game against Czechia, missing their second as well.
Jon Cooper reveals Morrissey's injury status moving forward
After their victory over Switzerland, Head Coach Jon Cooper addressed the situation with Morrissey, and while he's not ruled out for the entire tournament, he'll miss the final group stage action on Sunday when Canada take on France.
You will not see him next game. (Sunday vs France). But by no means is he out for the tournament. - Cooper on Morrissey
While France may not be as easy as some fans expect, given the play from Canada thus far, that should be another big victory for them, and given another few days of rest, it's likely that Morrissey could be back soon.
In his place, Travis Sanheim joined the lineup on Friday, and while the team would much prefer to have No. 44 back in action this tournament, if he can't return soon, this is a deep, talented team that believe a gold medal is on the way.
