Team Canada defenseman Josh Morrissey forced to leave game with injury
Josh Morrissey was a huge part of Team Canada's blue line coming into the Olympics, but in game one, the Winnipeg Jets star has been forced to leave the game.
Heading into the 2026 Olympic Games, there were some questions over Team Canada's roster, but given the star studded forward group they've taken, they're no doubt considered a gold medal contender.
In game one of their tournament against Czechia, the team have flexed their muscles, and with Jordan Binnington looking like the goaltender we saw at the Four Nations, optimism is only growing for Canada.
Josh Morrissey departs with injury
However, they've now got one burning question following the start to the tournament, with Winnipeg Jets star Josh Morrissey leaving the game early on, with Elliotte Friedman revealing that because the tournament has begun, the team can't call in an injury replacement for him.
As of right now, there's no update on his status for the rest of the tournament, but quickly after leaving the bench, it was confirmed that he wouldn't return, with Canadian fans holding their breath for one of their star blue liners.
If he can't go, the team have Philadelphia's Travis Sanheim in camp to take his place, but if he is indeed out long-term, that leaves them with just seven defenseman, something that could come back to haunt them later in the tournament.
Until we get an official update on Morrissey, there's no telling how things will play out, but with Canada's next game coming against Switzerland on Friday, the hope is that we get some clarity on Morrissey's status moving forward in the 2026 Olympic Games.
