The Edmonton Oilers have finally made a big trade for a goaltender. They've acquired Tristan Jarry from the Pittsburgh Penguins, as well as Spencer Stastney from Nashville.

The Oilers, who are working with a very tight three-year window to win a Stanley Cup while both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are on the team, have now acquired Tristan Jarry from the Pittsburgh Penguins. They've equally acquired defenseman Spencer Stastney from the Nashville Predators.
Goaltending has been a serious issue for the Oilers for several years - dating back to Mikko Koskinen and Mike Smith earlier this decade. Now, their tandem of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard hasn't been getting the job done.
Jarry has been in Pittsburgh for nearly a decade, and was briefly part of the 2017 Stanley Cup winning team. The last few years haven't been the easiest for Jarry, but he has significant pedigree.
With an $5.375 million annual average value, it will be interesting to see how the Oilers pulled this one off.
It is believed, per Ryan Rishaug of TSN, that controversial goaltender Stuart Skinner will be part of the deal going back to Pittsburgh.
We now have confirmation from Elliotte Friedman on the Jarry deal. The Oilers have traded Stuart Skinner, Brett Kulak, and a second round pick to Edmonton in exchange for Jarry, as well as former first-round pick Samuel Poulin.
Skinner ($2.6 million), and Kulak ($2.75 million) make up $5.35 million of salary cap space; Jarry makes $5.375 million - this deal is essential 'money-in, money-out'; exactly how Edmonton had to make a deal. It was reported last week that the Pittsburgh Penguins were unwilling to retain salary in a trade, and they've been able to avoid retention in this deal.
Stastney, a 25-year-old left-handed defenseman, has been with the Nashville Predators organization since being drafted by them in the fifth round in 2018. We will see what his impact is with the Oilers.
The cost for this trade was a third round pick.
More to come.
