The Colorado Avalanche, the top team in the Western Conference, have acquired some help on the back end by picking up Nick Blankenburg from the divisional foe Nashville Predators.
The Colorado Avalanche are the best team in the NHL, and they want to do everything possible to try and win their first Stanley Cup since their most recent win in 2022 over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
They have made a trade today that bolsters their defense, picking up defenseman Nick Blankenburg from the divisional foe Nashville Predators; they are sending a fifth round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft back to the Predators.

Blankenburg, who was never drafted into the NHL, played for four years in the NCAA for the University of Michigan Wolverines and later signed an entry-level contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
He then signed a two year contract with the Predators on the first day of free agency in 2024, and is a pending UFA at the end of this year.
He has 21 points (6G, 15A) in 49 games this year. In 164 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and Predators, Blankenburg has 55 points (16G, 39A).
The trade deadline is March 6.

Last month, the Avalanche also acquired defensive help, trading Samuel Girard and a second round draft pick in the 2028 NHL Entry Draft to the Pittsburgh Penguins for defenseman Brett Kulak.
The Avalanche are serious about trying to bring another Stanley Cup to Denver, and right now, they're one of the betting favourites to get it done.
