Former Boston Bruins Stanley Cup winner Milan Lucic hasn't been able to secure a contract with the AHL's Springfield Thunderbirds and could be facing retirement.
It looks like the professional hockey career of former Boston Bruins' Stanley Cup winning forward Milan Lucic could be nearing an end.
His
professional tryout agreement with the Springfield Thunderbirds, the American Hockey League affiliate of the St. Louis Blues, was terminated.
Lucic signed a professional tryout agreement with the Blues earlier in the year, but wasn't able to earn a roster spot and was returned to the Thunderbirds.
In the five games he played with the Thunderbirds, he had an assist but didn't get a single shot on goal.
Milan Lucic Spent Time In The NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program
Lucic opened up about spending time in the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program, for which he credited for being able to reach the point of getting a professional tryout in the AHL.
I've had a lot of support up to this point, so I definitely want to do my best to make the most of it. I think a lot of people and players suffer in silence and are scared to ask for help. That's why this player program is in place - to help players when they're going through tough times. I'm grateful and thankful for the whole program. It's helped me build myself back up.
Not only them, my family, especially my wife and kids. Their support helped me get to this point.
Lucic last played in a regular season NHL game in 2023 with the Boston Bruins, to whom he returned with a one year deal after years of playing elsewhere.
In 1,177 games played, Lucic had 586 points (233G, 353A) with the Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames.
