Many believed that Milan Lucic's NHL career was over, but after suffering an injury in the pre-season, he's now back on a tryout deal in the AHL.
Milan Lucic has had a long, solid career in the National Hockey League, but given his limitations as a player, it's been quite some time since he's been effective in the league.
Then, his career came to a halt after an incident off the ice involving his wife, which many believed would end his career given how little he has to offer to today's game full of speed and skill.
Milan Lucic Signs AHL tryout
That didn't stop the St. Louis Blues from giving Lucic a professional tryout in the pre-season, but after suffering an injury, he lost any chance at making their team for the regular season.
Now, he's back with the organization, as he officially signed a
tryout deal with their AHL affiliate the Springfield Thunderbirds, as it appears the team are ready to give him any opportunity to make the team in 2025/26.
As of right now, it's unclear what his chances are of making the Blues roster, but given the physicality and the intimidation that he can bring on the ice, clearly that's what they covet as they've given him another opportunity here.
Lucic last appeared in the NHL with the Boston Bruins back in 2023/24, tallying 2 points in 4 games in that season, and while he provides nothing beyond his fighting and physical ability, the Blues appear ready to give him a role that allows him to do just that, and if he thrives in the AHL, we could see the 37-year old back in the league soon.
