Wild Player Gets a Boarding Major; Suspension Likely

Rough hits and a lot of activity are usually involved when the Minnesota Wild and Dallas Stars play. There were two fights in the previous game, and there was another brawl and a dirty play that will probably result in a suspension in this one as well.

With 45 minutes of penalty time between the two teams, Dallas emerged victorious in the special teams match by converting on five of eight powerplays. The Wild only scored on one powerplay out of five chances.

What happened leading up to the play, as well as the play

Before the second period ended at 16:00, there had been a brawl in the first between Craig Smith and Connor Dewar, and seven minor penalties handed out between the two teams.

Thomas Harley was near the boards at 18:14 in the second session, and Brandon Duhaime hit Harley hard from behind ending his night. Harley stayed on the ice for a while afterwards and never returned to the game.

He received a game misconduct and a five-minute major. He'll probably get a call from the NHL's Department of Player Safety soon as well, especially with Harley not returning.

Duhaime's history and the rest of the game

After the second goal on the fine-minute advantage made it 7-3, the game had settled down, and just three penalties were called in the remaining period. There were two penalties against the Stars and one against the Wild.

Although Brandon Duhaime has never been punished by the NHL, he did have a near miss in October 2021 following a hit from behind on Bowen Byram of the Avalanche that resulted in a call for crosschecking during the play. He had a five-minute major during the game, but that was it as he was not suspended afterwards.
