The Tampa Bay Lightning and Buffalo Sabres combined for an incredible 70 penalty minutes in the first period alone of today's game, with multiple fights breaking out between the two divisional foes.

We may be seeing the start of a new rivalry in the Atlantic Division, as the red-hot Buffalo Sabres and Tampa Bay Lightning are going at it, literally.
Both teams combined for an incredible 70 penalty minutes alone in the first period, which included multiple fights.
Immediately after the opening face-off at center ice, Buffalo's Michael Kesselring fought against Tampa's Erik Cernak.
Minutes later, Corey Perry, who was just re-acquired by the Lightning this week from the Los Angeles Kings, fought against Beck Malenstyn.
It was complete chaos in Buffalo, and the fans, who have started to pack KeyBank Centre again thanks to how hot their team has been playing, loved every minute of it.
They also loved the fact that their team now has a 3-0 lead against the Lightning, as they're now a serious threat to finish first overall in the Atlantic.

The Buffalo Sabres Could Take Control Of The Atlantic Division

Even though they didn't make any changes to their roster in December, the firing of GM Kevyn Adams seemed to light a spark under the Sabres.
They've been one of the hottest teams in the NHL since then, and have now found themselves in first place the Atlantic standings.
If they hold on to beat the Lightning today, they'll put more space between them and the second-place Bolts.
Their story so far this year is shaping up to be like that of a Disney movie, considering how poorly they started.
