Gabriel Landeskog is week-to-week with a lower-body injury, and the Colorado Avalanche just took a brutal hit with the playoffs closing in.

The team announced he will not play because of the injury, and «week-to-week» is the phrase nobody in Denver wanted to see again.
Landeskog's cap hit sits at $7 million in 2025-26, and that matters because you cannot just patch over his minutes with a cheap recall.
Colorado is still 42-10-9, but the margin shrinks fast when your captain's not available for the heavy shifts.
He has 7-15-22 in 41 games, and those points only tell half the story of what he does to stabilize a line.
The on-ice 'why' is simple, Landeskog is a puck-winning winger who makes the offensive zone feel smaller for the other team.
He wins wall battles, gets inside defenders, and turns average-looking possessions into second chances.
That's top-six glue, and it usually shows up most on the man advantage when you need a screen and a quick stick.

Gabriel Landeskog forces Colorado Avalanche line surgery

Avs fans are exhausted by the injury carousel, because every good stretch immediately comes with another wait-and-see update.
If he misses multiple games, Jared Bednar has to reshuffle net-front roles and late-game matchups on the fly.
That can push other wingers up the lineup before they're ready for those minutes.
It also changes how Colorado protects leads, because Landeskog is one of the forwards you trust to close.
The deadline angle gets tricky too, because replacing a $7.0M player's impact is rarely a single add, even if you have room.
Sunday's lineup becomes the first real clue, who inherits his spot, and who gets his power-play touches.
Colorado can still win, but the path gets a lot more stressful without No. 92.
