NHL analyst David Pagnotta reveals the player that the Montreal Canadiens were allegedly targeting during the trade deadline before a trade fell through.

The trade deadline is officially history, and the Montreal Canadiens didn't make a major move like some fans and analysts had anticipated.
They had been linked to Nazem Kadri, now formerly of the Calgary Flames who was traded back to the Colorado Avalanche, where he won a Stanley Cup in 2022.
But now, NHL analyst David Pagnotta is revealing that Montreal was very close to acquiring a right-handed defenseman at the deadline, though he didn't specify exactly who it was.
David Pagnotta: The Habs were very very close to getting a defenseman, a right shot; it was like right at the finish line...the other team pulled back right at the last minute - Hello Hockey (3/7)
There were multiple right-handed defenseman embroiled in trade rumours, some of whom did get moved. Tyler Myers was sent from the Vancouver Canucks to the Dallas Stars, and Justin Faulk was traded to the Detroit Red Wings.
But other names like Dougie Hamilton and Rasmus Ristolainen remain with their current teams despite having been linked to several others. Maybe one of them was on their way to being a Hab before a deal fell through for whatever reason.

Multiple Players Around The League Moved To New Destinations

Even though the Habs were not active at the deadline, several other teams were. For instance, the Tampa Bay Lightning re-acquired Corey Perry from the Los Angeles Kings, who made several deals of their own involving Warren Foegele and Scott Laughton.
The Buffalo Sabres picked up multiple players, while the Toronto Maple Leafs traded away several players.
It was a hectic day in the NHL, and now every team that added players is focused on making a run in the postseason with the hope their new reinforcements will help push them further.
