The Vegas Golden Knights inked Carter Hart to a two-year deal, and now they've released a statement defending the move.
After some time away from the game, this off-season, Gary Bettman and the NHLPA officially came to a decision on Carter Hart, re-instating him to be potentially signed by any NHL team this off-seaon.
While it took longer than expected, the highly anticipated move to sign with the Vegas Golden Knights
became official on Thursday, with the team inking the goaltender to a two-year deal worth $1.8 million per season.
Golden Knights Release Statement on Carter Hart
Unsurprisingly, the move was met with plenty of backlash, so much so that the team released this statement just hours after making the signing of the talented goaltender official.
Following the reinstatement decision agreed on by the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players Association, goaltender Carter Hart will be joining the Vegas Golden Knights organization.
The Golden Knights are aligned with the process and assessment the NHL and NHLPA made in their decision. We remain committed to the core values that have defined our organization from its inception and expect that our players will continue to meet these standards moving forward.
This move was always going to come with some controversy, and while many will point to the Golden Knights needing to release this statement as a reason not to sign him, both the NHL and the NHLPA signed off on the move.
Ultimately, Hart will give this team some solid backup goaltending beyond
Adin Hill, and that's what matters at the end of the day, with the team firmly committed to bringing in the former Flyers netminder.
