There have been many injuries in hockey suffered already in 2025/26, and after falling short handed on their roster, the Abbotsford Canucks have signed two players.
The Vancouver Canucks have been hit hard by some injuries early in the 2025/26 season, and as a result, they've relied heavily on their farm system and the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks.
The AHL squad is coming into this year on the back of their first ever Calder Cup victory, but early in the year, the injuries have hit them hard as well, with the team being forced to make
two major moves on over the past two days.
Abbotsford Sign Two Players To Fill Out Their Roster
In two separate moves on Monday and Tuesday, Abbotsford Canucks GM
Ryan Johnson announced that the team have signed defensemen Phip Waugh, just a day after adding fellow blue liner Jake Murray.
These moves come out of necessity for Abbotsford, who have been off to a rough start thus far in 2025/26, posting a 2-8-2 record through 12 games as they sit in last place in the Pacific Division.
Thankfully for Vancouver, this shortage of talent down in the AHL hasn't effected them too much, as they've found themselves playing well for the most part early in the year, but if the injuries continue to build up as the season goes on, this could become a major issue at both the AHL and NHL level.
For now, Abbotsford have been able to cover their injuries, but with two new players now added to the roster, their depth is being tested in a major way, so we will see if these two moves pay off for them moving forward.
