Last season, Brad Marchand left the Boston Bruins for Florida and a Stanley Cup, but one key Maple Leaf tried his hardest to recruit him to Toronto.
The 2025 trade deadline in the NHL changed the landscape of the league, with the biggest move of all being the Florida Panthers acquiring star forward Brad Marchand from the Florida Panthers.
That move helped the Panthers win their second straight Stanley Cup, and after
extending this off-season, it could lead to immense success for years to come in Florida.

However, Florida weren't the only team chasing Marchand, as it was no secret that the Toronto Maple Leafs wanted to add the Canadian veteran, with the team again attempting to land him this summer.
It wasn't for a lack of trying that Toronto missed out, as former Bruins teammate Brandon Carlo has revealed he tried to entice his former captain to join him in Toronto and chase a Stanley Cup there.
"I had talked to him, and there had been conversations there, and I felt like he definitely had that interest to come here. Ultimately, it didn't end up that way. But that would have been fantastic. Now we're just gonna have to compete against him and hopefully beat him here soon."
Unsurprisingly, given that Marchand already won a Stanley Cup in Florida, he chose to remain with his new team, as he feels that gives him a chance to win multiple over the coming years.
That has led to Toronto failing to land a proven top-six winger to replace
Mitch Marner, and despite Carlo's best efforts, they'll now have to do battle with Marchand as both Toronto and Florida battle it out for a Stanley Cup in 2025/26.
