The Oilers have already waived some intriguing players this off-season, and now, they're reportedly in danger of losing Alec Regula.
The Edmonton Oilers have made some tough roster decisions already this off-season, as the team have successfully sent several players
through waivers ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
They're not done however, as their current pre-season roster is full of players with intrigue and talent, but with the team chasing a third straight Stanley Cup Finals appearance, they'll need the best lineup they can possibly get early in the regular season.
After Supporting Alec Regula Through Injury Troubles, the Oilers May Lose Him For Nothing
Last season, the team acquired Alec Regula through waivers from the Boston Bruins, and in that time, the team helped the 25-year old recover from tough injury troubles, with hopes that he could become a key piece of their blue line for years to come.
Unfortunately, it's unclear if he's ready to play full-time NHL minutes right now, and as a result, the team may need to
place him on waivers, a move that will easily lead to another team claiming the former third-round pick.
However, there's still plenty of optimism that he can be on the opening night roster after putting up 26 points in his last, injury riddled AHL campaign in 2023/24, with many seeing the 6-foot-4 behemoth as a great option for the third pairing.
Ultimately, it would be a major blow to the Oilers to lose Regula on waivers less than a year after claiming him, and if the team believe in him enough, don't be shocked to see him on the opening night roster.
