Longtime NHL forward Milan Lucic, who hasn't played since 2023-24, is trying to earn a contract with the St. Louis Blues but has experienced an injury setback, which could endanger his chances of being signed.

Former Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic, who hasn't played since 2023-24 when he took a leave of absence from the Boston Bruins after an incident in his personal life, is trying to earn a contract with the St. Louis Blues.
He's been signed to a PTO, but he's already experiencing adversity with an injury that is going to keep him off the ice on a day to day basis.
Blues head coach Jim Montgomery, who briefly coached Lucic with the Bruins, said the timing of Lucic's injury was unfortunate.
He's day-to-day. He's walking around fine. It's just a matter of being able to push out there. It's unfortunate timing for him and us for the evaluation process to see if he can make the club.

If he's really day-to-day, and he's back to play next week, he'll get into games and we'll see if he can make the team.

The Blues are already playing preseason games, but the longer Lucic goes without being able to play, the lower his chances of getting a contract for the year go.

Milan Lucic last played in 2023-24

Lucic was taken with the 50th overall pick by the Bruins in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, and would eventually help them win a Stanley Cup in 2011.
He also briefly played for the Los Angeles Kings before spending several years each with the Edmonton Oilers and their divisional foe Calgary Flames.
He has 584 points (233G, 353A) in 1177 career NHL games.
During his absence from the Bruins, he completed a stay in the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program and was officially reinstated by the NHL.
