Oilers' Vasily Podkolzin to Step Away From Hockey Indefinitely After Heartbreaking Family News

The Edmonton Oilers are going ot be without Vasily Podkolzin as he tends to an unfortunate family situation with the recent and unexpected passing of his father.
Even though the rest of his teammates are preparing to defend their consecutive Western Conference titles, Vasily Podkolzin will not be available to play any time soon.
It was announced that his father, unfortunately and unexpectedly, passed away, and that he's taken a leave of absence to return home to Russia and be with his family.
The Edmonton Oilers are saddened to share that Vasily Podkolzin's father Alexander tragically and suddenly passed away last night.
The forward will be taking a leave of absence to return to Russia and be with his family. The Oilers extend heartfelt condolences to Podkolzin and his family during this difficult time.

In his 1st year with the Oilers, Podkolzin had 24 points (8G, 16A).
Podkolzin began his NHL career with the Canucks before being traded to the Oilers
Podkolzin was taken with the 10th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks while playing with SKA-Neva of the VHL. He later played in the KHL for SKA Saint Petersburg before making the jump to North America to join the Canucks.
In his rookie NHL year, he had 26 points (14G, 12A) in 79 games played, but would split the next year between the Canucks and the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks.
His time with the Canucks came to an end last summer
when he was traded to the divisional foe Oilers for a 4th round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
