JT Miller Hit With Major Demotion by the New York Rangers
After a hot start with his new team this season, things have taken a turn for J.T. Miller, as the Rangers have removed him from the top power-play unit.
The New York Rangers lost a golden opportunity to catch up in the playoff hunt with a 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday evening.
The Kings controlled play for the first 20 minutes, and the Rangers only mustered two shots on goal. Still, the game was scoreless after one.
JT Miller gave the Rangers the lead in the second period with the game's first goal. New York could not capitalize, however.
The Rangers lost the special teams battle
Costly penalties in the second period were their downfall as the Kings capitalized on two of three power-play opportunities to take control of the game.
Special units were the difference, as Los Angeles won the man-advantage battle. Frustration mounted for the Rangers, not just because of the loss but also because of lineup changes.
Throughout the game, head coach Peter Laviolette dropped Miller from the first power-play unit, substituting him with Vincent Trocheck in a bid to ignite the struggling offense.
Despite Igor Shesterkin's phenomenal game, 30 of 32 saves, New York was unable to provide him with enough support.
The team is well aware of how much they're counting on their goalie and how their recent lack of success has made every missed opportunity so much more costly.
With losses piling up at a crucial point, the Rangers need to rebound in a hurry. They'll attempt to get back on track Friday night against the Anaheim Ducks.
