Connor Hellebuyck officially traded to the Devils with full return haul revealed
Connor Hellebuyck is reportedly headed to the New Jersey Devils in a blockbuster that sends Nico Daws and Dawson Mercer to Winnipeg.
The Connor Hellebuyck saga is finally over.
The Winnipeg Jets have traded their franchise goalie to the New Jersey Devils, ending a standoff that dragged on for months.
Per Kevin Weekes, Winnipeg is getting Nico Daws, Dawson Mercer, Alexander Command, two future picks and another forward.
TSN's Darren Dreger reports the trade call is complete, though the full terms haven't been made official yet.
It's a wild finish to a long, awkward stretch.
Hellebuyck asked out after last season, went public in August, and was suspended in September for skipping training camp.
That suspension was set to end Friday.
What the Devils are getting
New Jersey lands a 33-year-old who won the Hart Trophy in 2024-25 and owns three Vezina Trophies.
Last season was a down year by his standards, with a 2.86 goals-against average and an .895 save percentage, but the Devils are betting on the player he has been for most of his career.
Money is the tricky part.
Hellebuyck carries an $8.5 million cap hit through 2030-31, and the Devils only had about $1.3 million in space, so salary has to head back to Winnipeg.
What it means for Winnipeg
The Jets sit at 4-3-3 with Stuart Skinner in net.
Reports say they wanted scorers in return, and Mercer gives them a forward who can play center or wing.
He scored 20 goals and put up 42 points in 82 games last season, so there's real production coming back.
Daws gives them a young goalie with something to prove, and the extra picks and forward only add to the haul.
Circle November 10 on the calendar.
That's when the Devils visit Winnipeg, and Hellebuyck will walk into that building wearing a different jersey.
