Jack Hughes will miss some time with a rather strange injury, and now it's been revealed that it was simply a freak accident at team dinner.

The New Jersey Devils have been rolling to start the 2025/26 campaign, and with a 12-4-1 record through their first 17 games, they sit in first place in the Metropolitan Division.
However, they've suffered another brutal injury recently, as reports emerged that superstar forward Jack Hughes will miss some time after cutting himself on a glass at a recent team dinner.

More details emerge on the 'freak accident'

Many out there were curious just how this happened, as one would assume that something irresponsible was happening, but now it's been revealed that Hughes accidentally leaned on a glass that broke and cut him, rather than it being a knife.
As of right now, there's been no timeline given on Hughes' return, as he has been reported as 'out indefinitely', and for a team that was rolling behind their biggest star, this is a brutal loss.
In 17 games, Hughes tallied 10 goals and 20 points and was the clear leader of this Devils team once again, but now early in the year, their depth and star power beyond him will be tested, as it's expected that Hughes will miss at least a month of action moving forward.
Unfortunately, things like this simply happen sometimes, but given Hughes' unlucky run with injury in recent years, it's just brutal that this happened to him after another very promising start, but if he gets back on the ice at 100% this season, there's no doubting that this team will once again be a threat in the Eastern Conference.
