The Athletic directly links Canadiens to one specific winger from the Pacific division

The Montreal Canadiens are one of the youngest and most exciting teams in the National Hockey League, and with a fantastic young core, the team are set to take a step forward in 2025/26.

With a record of 11-7-3 across their first 21 games, this is a team that's clearly ready to contend immediately, but to do that, there's certainly a few gaps that they need to fill.

One of those is the second-line centre spot, as they've already been linked to the likes of Nazem Kadri, but beyond that, President of Hockey Operations Jeff Gorton hinted that the team would love an answer to the likes of Tom Wilson, as they need that physicality come playoff time.

Now, the Vancouver Canucks have opened up the potential of selling off many of their veterans, and with Kiefer Sherwood being a free agent at the end of this season, the Canadiens have been linked to the late-blooming winger.

Last season, Sherwood had career highs in goals (19) and points (40), while also breaking the NHL's single season record for hits, and given that he's taken his game to a new level in 2025/26 with 16 points in 23 games played, he would be a perfect fit in Montreal.

As of right now, the team can afford to be patient, but with so many assets and some needs to fill, if there's any team out there that should aggressively pursue Sherwood, it's the Canadiens.
