Connor McDavid directly addresses Oilers' goaltending in harsh postgame inteview
Connor McDavid and the Oilers have struggled in 2025/26, and now he's addressed the team's biggest issue; their poor goaltending.
The Edmonton Oilers were blown away on Tuesday night by the Dallas Stars, falling 8-3 on home ice in yet another embarrassing performance, this representing the third time in the last month they've given up seven or more goals.
The team were already in desperate need of a goaltending upgrade, but after this loss, calls for the team to pursue Jordan Binnington or a veteran upgrade have only increased.
Connor McDavid addresses Oilers goaltending woes
In the media and from the fans, it's very easy to blame Stuart Skinner for the Oilers woes, as he has posted a 3.18 GAA and an .878 save percentage, not the numbers that a supposed Stanley Cup contender wants to see.
However, captain Connor McDavid doesn't put all of that on Skinner and Calvin Pickard, but instead insists that goaltending is a team issue, and right now, the team simply isn't backing up their net minders as they should.
I really feel like goaltending is a team thing.
If goaltending is a 'team thing', then the Oilers are struggling immensely, as they have allowed three or more goals in 10 of their last 12 games, as they now sit 30th in the NHL with a team GAA of 3.72 on the season.
Ultimately, there are plenty of things the Oilers need to change if they wish to be seen as a genuine Stanley Cup threat again in 2025/26, but if they can't fix their goaltending, then none of it is going to matter at the end of the day.
