The Pittsburgh Penguins, who already made a major trade today by sending Tristan Jarry to the Edmonton Oilers, are placing defenseman Matt Dumba on the waiver wire, where he'll have 24 hours to clear.
It's already been a monumental day for the Pittsburgh Penguins, who traded goaltender Tristan Jarry to the Edmonton Oilers as part of a package to acquire Stuart Skinner.
But now, they're making another move by placing veteran defenseman Matt Dumba on waivers just months after acquiring him in a trade with the Dallas Stars for Vladislav Kolyachonok.
Officially, they have announced that Dumba has been designated non-roster for the purpose of being placed on waivers at 2:00 PM.
Dumba has three points (1G, 2A) in 11 games so far this year, his first in a Penguins sweater.
He's played for multiple teams in his NHL career after being taken with the seventh overall pick by the Minnesota Wild in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
He has 261 points (85G, 176A) in 748 career games with the Wild, Arizona Coyotes, Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars and Penguins.
Dumba is under contract through the end of this season with an AAV (average annual value) of $3,750,000.
The Penguins Pulled A Major Trade With The Oilers Today
Earlier today, the Penguins pulled off a major trade with the Edmonton Oilers by trading Tristan Jarry to Edmonton for Brett Kulak, goalie Stuart Skinner, and a second round pick in the 2029 NHL Entry Draft.
Last year, the Penguins waived Jarry and sent him to the AHL to help rediscover his game. After they traded Alex Nedeljkovic to the San Jose Sharks over the summer, Jarry appeared to be the de-facto starter in Pittsburgh again but had to compete for playing time with the newly acquired Arturs Silovs.
So far this year, Jarry had gone 9-3-1 with a .909 SV%.
