After the latest embarrassing loss, Boston Bruins goaltender Joonas Korpisalo took aim at the team coaching staff in a clear show of his frustration at how the year has gone.
The Boston Bruins suffered yet another embarrassing loss on Sunday, dropping their 11th out of their last 12 games with a 6-3 loss to the divisional foe Buffalo Sabres.
In recent days, the Bruins have been jumped by the Sabres in the standings and
are now in the last place position not only in the Atlantic Division but in the entire Eastern Conference. Talk about a far cry from where the team was just 2 years ago, setting the new NHL regular season record for wins with 65.
Bruins goaltender Joonas Korpisalo allowed 5 of the 6 goals the Sabres scored.
He was particularly frustrated afterward and took aim at the team coaching staff over his lack of consistent playing time.
There's been times I've been sitting for quite a bit and not playing. But it's not up to me. You know, I try to do everything I can every day to stay ready and whenever it's game-time, just to give 110% and help the team.
He continued about the game:
It was a back to back for both teams and in the 2nd period....maybe we just lost our legs. They just hemmed us in quite a bit in the 2nd period.
Korpisalo, who played 58 games last year in his first and only season with the Ottawa Senators, has only played in 26 games this year in Boston.
He was acquired as part of the blockbuster trade between the divisional foes that sent goaltender
Linus Ullmark back to Ottawa. Korpisalo is under contract for an additional 3 years with an AAV (average annual value) of $5 million.
Combined with
Jeremy Swayman's new AAV of $8.25 million, the Bruins are spending a combined $13.5 million on their goaltending, a particularly rough figure for a team that won't make the playoffs.
