Hurricanes defenseman Jalen Chatfield was a target of the media this week, and as a result, they've all been called out by Rod Brind'Amour in a scathing statement.
The Carolina Hurricanes recent matchup against the Washington Capitals was full of fireworks, with the moment that Jalen Chatfield slamming the head of
Connor McMichael into the ice drawing plenty of criticism from fans and the media.
There were many posts like this on social media calling for him to be suspended due to his actions, but ultimately he wasn't given any further discipline, something that the media had a field day with.
Now, 'Canes Head Coach Rod Brind'Amour has lashed out at the media for their comments, labelling them 'morons' as he stood up for his heavy hitting blue liner, whom he believes would never do this intentionally.
"The media was the one who made drama out of it and they're morons, typically.
If you're going to say what happened at the end was anything more than what I've seen a thousand times before, you don't know what you're talking about. Go look at the game exactly before. The Boston-Detroit game. Two really good heavyweights going at it and watch how that fight ends. It's a takedown, I'm sorry. Quit making something out of what isn't, because that's not a fair characterization of our player and that's what bothers me on the whole thing.
Do your homework."
In the comments, Brind'Amour calls out the media for targeting their player for a move that was out of character for him, and given the way the media spoke about Chatfield, it's easy to see why his coach wanted to stand up for him.
Ultimately, getting called out likely isn't going to stop fans and the media going after players for moments and plays like this, but this is something that will certainly be appreciated in the 'Canes locker room.
