Team Canada captain Sidney Crosby was hurt in their thrilling 4-3 OT win over Czechia, and head coach Jon Cooper announced the latest on his condition.
It was a scary scene for Canada today against Czechia, not only on the scoreboard until they were able to come back and win 4-3 in OT but in the second period when captain Sidney Crosby was hurt.
Crosby took hard hits from both Radko Gudas and Martin Necas and was seen visibly in discomfort. He left the contest and didn't come back, and Canada announced that his day was over.
Canada head coach Jon Cooper said that Crosby wasn't in a position to help the team after his injury and that he's honestly unaware about the severity of the injury.
You just rarely see it, and so for him, something definitely went wrong. But he just thought he wasn’t in a position to help the team for the rest of the night. And we’ll reevaluate after that. I don’t even have my poker face on either, because I honestly don’t know. - Jon Cooper
Canada will not be able to bring in a new player to replace Crosby since his injury took place after the Olympics already started.
Canada Stunned Czechia 4-3 In OT
Czechia took a 3-2 lead in controversial fashion in the third period with Ondrej Palat's goal, even though replays showed that they clearly had six players on the ice, which should have been whistled for a penalty.
But Canada tied the game late in the third after Nick Suzuki scored, followed by Marner's OT GWG.
Canada remains undefeated in Olympic Games in which Crosby plays, but right now there's no word on if he'll be able to play in their next game against a yet to be determined opponent.
