After Mitch Marner's clutch OT goal for Team Canada against Czechia today, two players appeared to call out Marner's former NHL team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Team Canada was rescued today by Nick Suzuki, who tied their game 3-3 late against Czechia, enabling Mitch Marner to score the OT GWG shortly into overtime to win 4-3.
Just like he did last year for Canada in the 4 Nations Faceoff, Marner scored an OT GWG and caused the fans wearing Canadian sweaters in the arena to go crazy in celebration.
Marner took tons of heat during the first part of his career when he was with the Toronto Maple Leafs for supposedly not being a big-game player when it mattered the most, but for Marner's Team Canada teammates, his goal today showed a different story.
I thought he wasn't a big-game player? He just showed the world. - Brandon Hagel
Mark Stone, his new teammate with the Vegas Golden Knights, took it a step further and called out the Maple Leafs at the same time.
As a teammate, I haven't experienced that. 4 Nations, he gets a huge overtime goal for us, makes an incredible play for the winner. Then tonight, when we need him the most, he makes the play. So... I think it's a Toronto thing. - Mark Stone
Mitch Marner Left The Maple Leafs After Another Playoff Letdown
But for those who criticized Marner for his performance in the postseason, they may have a point.
He only had an assist in Toronto's last four playoff games last year against the divisional foe Florida Panthers, who won the series and dealt the Maple Leafs another heartbreaking Game 7 loss at home.
Even so, Marner is on top of the world right now with his Team Canada teammates as they try and win gold once again.
