Jack Hughes scored the biggest goal of his life, but Sheldon Keefe will never see that puck in the locker room.

Team USA captured gold at the Milan Cortina Olympics.
The New Jersey Devils superstar potted the game-winner.
Naturally, he wanted the rubber as a career souvenir.
The Hockey Hall of Fame has other plans.
According to ESPN's Greg Wyshynski, the HHOF flat-out denied his request to keep the milestone puck.
"Unfortunately, in the easiest words, it was never Jack's puck to own,"

A Crushing Decision for Jack Hughes

It is a tough pill to swallow for the young center.
Scoring a gold-medal-winning goal on the international stage is the pinnacle of the sport.
Players dream of taking that piece of history home.
Instead, the artifact is heading straight to Toronto to be preserved behind glass.
The Hall claims strict jurisdiction over official Olympic game pucks.
This is especially true for historic game-winners.
Hughes will just have to settle for the gold medal hanging around his neck.
It is a massive piece of hardware, but missing out on the puck definitely stings.
