Sidney Crosby's selflessness exposes Jack Hughes in Hockey Hall of Fame controversy

Back in the Gold Medal Game of the 2026 Olympic Games, it was New Jersey Devils star Jack Hughes that broke all of Canada's hearts, sealing the victory in overtime in incredibly dramatic fashion.

Since then, the spotlight has been on Hughes, and in a shock report on Tuesday, it was revealed that he wants his puck back after finding out that it was placed in the Hockey Hall of Fame, located in Toronto.

Unsurprisingly, this has led to plenty of criticism, with people pointing out that the IIHF owns everything from the Olympics, and as we've seen in the past, they have the right to display anything there that they want, as they've shut down Hughes' public request for the puck.

The best example of that is Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, whose stick and the Golden Goal puck from the 2010 Vancouver Olympics remain in the Hockey Hall of Fame still to this day.

When asked about the Hughes situation, Crosby didn't go after the young American star, but his response to his gear being in the Hall of Fame show just how selfless 87 truly is.

Ultimately, Hughes has made it clear that he doesn't want the puck for himself, but for his father, and while that's an honorable thing, the IIHF and the HOF are entitled to the puck, and as of right now, it's clear that it will remain in Toronto on display moving forward.
