Brady Tkachuk did not tell Tim Stutzle that he requested a trade out of Ottawa, in what is the latest turn in this offseason soap opera in Ottawa.
The hockey world is still buzzing over Brady Tkachuk's trade request out of Ottawa, and now the Senators' new face of the franchise is speaking out.
Tim Stutzle addressed the situation head on this week, admitting the move caught plenty of people off guard around the league.
"You're always surprised over a big move like that."

Stutzle didn't hide from the topic when reporters brought it up.
He explained that players generally don't discuss trade requests with teammates before they happen, and this situation was no different.
He said he wasn't given a heads up from Tkachuk before the request became public, but he wasn't holding any grudge over it either.
Stutzle reflects on the change in Ottawa
For years, Tkachuk was the heartbeat of the Senators locker room, wearing the C and setting the tone on and off the ice.
Losing that presence is a real shift for a team trying to build something in Ottawa.
Stutzle acknowledged the impact, saying the club will miss Tkachuk as a player, a person and a leader, but stressed the group has to keep pushing forward.
"You don't really talk to your teammates about that. I love Ottawa and I want to be there for as long as I can. Maybe other people have different opinions. That's none of my business. I'm just trying to focus on what we have, the team we have. We have a great team. We have a bunch of great guys, so it's going to be fine."

Senators focused on what comes next
Rather than dwelling on the departure, Stutzle pointed to the depth still in that Ottawa room.
He talked about trusting the players who are still there and believing this team has enough talent and character to compete without leaning on one single name.
"[Brady Tkachuk] was always there for me. But at the end of the day, we've got to move on. We're going to miss him as a hockey player, as a person, and as a leader, but it is what it is."

With training camp approaching, all eyes will be on how Stutzle steps into a bigger leadership role and whether Ottawa can turn this offseason shake up into a fresh start.
