Chad Johnson, the Pro Football Hall of Fame receiver known as Ochocinco, waded into hockey territory this week, and NHL fans were quick to remind him he picked the wrong lane.

The spark came from a viral clip of Connor McDavid during offseason training, with one X account calling the Oilers captain the only human on the planet who can move as he does. Ochocinco was not ready to let that stand unchallenged.
Pavel Datsyuk is on this planet as well

A Bold Comparison

For hockey diehards, invoking Datsyuk in a debate about otherworldly movement is not crazy on its face.
The former Detroit Red Wings forward, a two time Stanley Cup champion and Hockey Hall of Fame inductee, built a reputation on hands and vision that made him one of the most mesmerizing playmakers of his era.
Still, most fans who follow the sport closely felt the comparison missed the point entirely.

Fans Push Back

The replies came fast. One fan pointed out that Datsyuk has not played in the NHL since 2016, adding bluntly that he is on Earth, not on whatever planet McDavid operates on.
Another suggested Ochocinco may have been thinking of Pavel Bure instead, arguing Datsyuk's game was defined by sick hands and vision rather than the blinding, otherworldly speed McDavid is known for.
The distinction matters to NHL fans. McDavid's praise centers on pure skating ability, closing speed and acceleration that regularly leave NHL defenders looking stationary.
Datsyuk, for all his brilliance, was never framed as the fastest skater in the league. His legacy runs through deception, defensive instincts and a stick that seemed to defy physics, a different kind of genius entirely.
Whether or not Ochocinco meant it as a serious debate, it landed as one, a reminder that crossover sports takes rarely satisfy the fanbase they are aimed at, even when the athlete making the comparison has Hall of Fame credentials of his own.
