Florida Panthers trade veteran defenseman Jeff Petry to central division team

The defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers, who are likely going to miss the playoffs this year, have sent Jeff Petry to the contending Minnesota Wild.
By all indications, it looks like the Stanley Cup defense of the Florida Panthers, who have won the last two Cups in a row, will come to an end, as they'll likely miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs for what would be the first time since 2019.
They simply had too many injuries to overcome coming into the season and it put them behind the 8-ball in a big way.
They could actually become sellers at this year's trade deadline, which is by tomorrow afternoon. And the first domino has fallen, as GM Bill Zito has sent defenseman Jeff Petry to the contending Minnesota Wild.
Florida got a seventh round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft in return.

So far in what was his first year in a Panthers sweater, Petry had eight assists in 58 games.
Jeff Petry Is On The Move Again
Petry was taken with the 45th overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, where he would play the first several years of his NHL career.
He has played for multiple teams since then, including the Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings.
In 1,039 career NHL games, Petry has 393 points (96G, 297A). He'll be a UFA at the end of this year.
