Before the Olympics quarterfinals, two NHL players in Mitchell Gibson of the Washington Capitals and Jacob MacDonald of the Colorado Avalanche were put on waivers and now have 24 hours to clear.
Even though most of the attention in the NHL right now is on the ongoing Olympics, there was some action on the waiver wire today.
The Colorado Avalanche have put defenseman Jacob MacDonald on waivers, and the Washington Capitals have done the same with goaltender Mitchell Gibson after signing him to a two year, two way contract.
Both players now have 24 hours to clear or otherwise be claimed, or they'll be sent to their respective AHL teams.
The news was first reported by NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman:

Two Different NHL Players Are On Waivers
MacDonald was never drafted into the NHL and has played for the Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers and San Jose Sharks during his career. Before his professional career began, he played for the USHL's Waterloo Black Hawks and then Cornell University.
He's had two separate tenures with the Avalanche, and has yet to play this year after undergoing hip surgery before the season began.
Gibson, who was taken with the 124th overall pick by the Capitals in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, was recently signed to a two year, two way deal by the Capitals and has gone 6-4-3 with the AHL's Hershey Bears with a .918 SV%.
