New Jersey Devils place veteran center on waivers

Marc McLaughlin hasn't made much of an impact in his stints around the NHL, and now the 26-year old has officially been waived by the New Jersey Devils.
The New Jersey Devils have been off to a very strange start in 2025/26, with the team showing immense promise before falling off ahead of the Olympic break, as they now sit in 15th place in the East, 11 points out of the final Wild Card spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs race.
That's led to many believing they could make a change moving forward, and while they can't make a trade with the Olympic roster freeze in action, that hasn't stopped them from making a move.
Marc McLaughlin waived
With the Olympics officially starting on Wednesday, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman took to social media to announce that 26-year old centre Marc McLaughlin has officially been placed on waivers by the Devils.
The talented forward has appeared in a combined 28 NHL games for the Boston Bruins and Devils over his career, but unfortunately, the formerly un-drafted forward just hasn't been able to stick.
This season, he has spent the entire year on LTIR, and after being activated, the Devils simply placed him on waivers, not believing he was worth a spot on this current roster.
In 2024/25, McLaughlin posted a combined 5 goals and 20 points in 50 AHL games between Providence and Utica, and while he could become a very productive AHL player, as of right now, this latest move simply proves he may not have a future at the NHL level.
