Pierre LeBrun confirms teams are trying to lure Marc-André Fleury out of retirement
Last year, we saw one of the most incredible NHL careers come to an end, but now a report has revealed teams are trying to lure Marc-Andre Fleury out of retirement.
Marc-Andre Fleury defined a generation in the NHL for many as a goaltender, winning three Stanley Cups while putting together an immense career between Pittsburgh, Vegas, Chicago and Minnesota.
The 2024/25 campaign was to be his last in the league however, as he officially announced his retirement, coming back this pre-season to finally retire as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Teams trying to lure Fleury out of retirement
Given how good he looked there and how desperate some teams are to upgrade in net, the expectation coming into this season was that teams around the league would potentially be looking to coax him out of retirement at some point.
Now, Pierre LeBrun has officially confirmed that, revealing that some teams in the league have checked in with Flower, hoping that he could be convinced to come out of retirement for one more year.
While LeBrun doesn't officially report the teams, it's not hard to look around the league at goaltender needy teams to be able to speculate on exactly who those squads would be.
There's still a chance that we may see him in the league again, but given how motivated he appeared to be when he was retiring, those teams would need to push very hard to get the former No. 1 overall pick interested.
Unsurprisingly, at this point it doesn't appear as though Fleury has any intention of playing at age 41-years of age, but if the interest continues and the money is there, absolutely anything could happen with the iconic netminder.
