Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki is taking responsibility for his and his linemates' performance yesterday in their shootout loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
You never want to be the team that another team breaks out of a lengthy losing streak against, but that's the situation that the Montreal Canadiens were in last night against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Penguins, who had lost eight games in a row, beat the Canadiens 4-3 in a shootout to finally stop the bleeding and pick up their first win in what seemed like ages.
It was also a historic night, as Penguins captain Sidney Crosby officially became the highest scoring player in Penguins history, passing Mario Lemieux.
Speaking of captains, Montreal's Nick Suzuki said after the game that he felt his performance, along with his line mates, wasn't very good.
I just thought my line wasn't very good. We definitely need to be better than that..I think if we were better, we could have won. - Nick Suzuki
So far this year, Suzuki has 40 points (10G, 30A) in 36 games. Last year, he led the Canadiens to their first postseason berth since their surprise run to the 2021 Stanley Cup Final.
Canadiens fans will appreciate that he's taking ownership of what he felt was a poor performance, and it should serve them better in the long run.
Nick Suzuki Has Been Canadiens Captain Since 2022
Suzuki, who was originally taken by the Vegas Golden Knights with the 13th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft but who was traded to Montreal in the Max Pacioretty deal, succeeded Shea Weber as the Habs' captain in 2022.
Ironically, Pacioretty was also the captain of the Canadiens for several years.
He became not only the youngest captain in team history, but also the 31st captain in Canadiens history.
