Most of the attention today is on the trade deadline, but multiple players who were recently placed on waivers have been claimed by new NHL teams.
Even though most of the attention today is going to be on the wave of trades expected because it's trade deadline day, there was ample activity on waivers and several players who ended up joining new teams.
Yesterday, the New Jersey Devils put forward Luke Glendening on waivers, and he's since been scooped up by the divisional foe Philadelphia Flyers.
The Vegas Golden Knights put forward Cole Reinhardt on waivers, and he was claimed today by the Florida Panthers.
And Curtis Douglas, who was waived by the Tampa Bay Lightning, has been claimed by the Vancouver Canucks.
All waiver claims were first reported by NHL analyst Chris Johnston.
Luke Glendening Started The Year On A PTO With The Devils And Earned A Roster Spot
Known primarily as a defensive specialist and a strong face-off taker, Glendening has played for multiple teams in his NHL career, including the Detroit Red Wings, Tampa Bay Lightning and Dallas Stars.
This year with the Devils, he had four assists in 52 games played.
Douglas, who was taken with the 106th overall pick by the Dallas Stars in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, had two assists in 29 games played with the Lightning so far this year.
Reinhardt, who was taken with the 181st overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators, signed a two year deal with the Golden Knights in 2025 but was waived less than a year into his deal.
In 44 games this year in Vegas, he had seven points (3G, 4A).
