Multiple big names hit the NHL waiver wire after holiday roster freeze ends
Per a report from NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, there have been several big names that are now up for grabs over the next 24 hours on the NHL's waiver wire, or they'll otherwise be sent to the American Hockey League.
It's a busy day on the NHL waiver wire today, as multiple names are now up for grabs over the next 24 hours or will otherwise be sent to their respective American Hockey League affiliates.
Per a report from NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, included on waivers are Noah Philip (Edmonton Oilers), Danton Heinen (Pittsburgh Penguins), Juuso Valimaki (Utah Mammoth), Marshall Rifai (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Ethan Bear (New York Islanders).

Multiple Names Are Now Up For Grabs On The NHL Waiver Wire
Philp was never drafted into the NHL and, after playing for the University of Alberta, has signed a series of one year contracts with the Oilers. So far this year, he has three points (2G, 1A) in 15 games.
Heinen was taken with the 116th overall pick by the Boston Bruins in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, and is in his second stint with the Penguins. He's also played for the Anaheim Ducks and Vancouver Canucks, and has two points (1G, 1A) in 13 games this year.
Valimaki was taken with the 16th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Calgary Flames, and has also worn an Arizona Coyotes sweater before the team moved to Salt Lake City. He has five points (2G, 3A) in 43 games.
Like Philp, Rifai was never drafted and has signed multiple contracts to stay in the Maple Leafs organization. He has no points in two games this year.
Bear, taken with the 124th pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, has played for multiple teams including the Carolina Hurricanes, Washington Capitals and Vancouver Canucks. He hasn't played this year, and spent last year with the AHL's Hershey Bears.
