Former Chicago Blackhawks captain and 3x Stanley Cup winner Jonathan Toews is set to make a return to the NHL next year, according to former defenseman Ryan Whitney.
Are we on the verge of seeing a return to action of former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews?
Having last played in the NHL in April of 2023, the 3x Stanley Cup winner has been open about his desire to make a return to the ice. According to former NHL defenseman and current "Spittin' Chiclets" host Ryan Whitney, Toews will be playing next year.
During a recent interview with The Athletic, Toews said that he wasn't happy with how his playing career came seemingly to a close with the Blackhawks and that his desire to compete as a professional athlete remains strong.
I'm not satisfied the way things ended in Chicago. It's not about proving anything. It's just that there's something left in the tank and I want to explore that. I want to go have fun, have a blast, play with passion. But at the same time, I still have some high-level hockey left. I want to be able to step away from the game having said that I've given it my all. And I still think there's something left to give.
Toews has been linked to the Winnipeg Jets his hometown club. But while his future in the NHL has yet to be decided, he's announced that he's not retired.
Everyone just assumed I was retired, but I think in my mind, I wasn't too sure for a long time. I just needed to not think about it, to just give myself time and space. Now I'm really missing hockey, and I think that's the biggest sign. I really miss the game and feel I have a whole different perspective and a new lease on things.
