Stunning three-team trade could send Dylan Larkin to Wild and Quinn Hughes to Devils

The Detroit Red Wings are dealing with a genuine mess right now, and Dylan Larkin is right in the middle of it.

Across the state line in Minnesota, the Wild are facing their own uncertainty, with Quinn Hughes in no hurry to sign a long term extension and showing zero urgency to make a decision anytime soon.

So how do the New Jersey Devils fit into all of this?

A wild three way trade concept is starting to gain traction, one that would send Larkin to Minnesota while Hughes heads east to reunite with his brothers Jack and Luke in New Jersey.

Larkin reportedly wouldn't mind landing with the Wild, and it's no secret Hughes has long dreamed of sharing a locker room with his brothers again.

Wild GM Bill Guerin clearly values Hughes, but if he's not fully committed to Minnesota long term, flipping him for a proven top six center like Larkin could be the smarter play instead of watching him walk for nothing next summer.

New Jersey would likely need to attach pieces like Dawson Mercer, Nico Daws and Seamus Casey to get a deal like this over the line, and locking Hughes up long term afterward would be more than worth the cost.

The Red Wings don't currently have a general manager, they just stripped Larkin of the captaincy, and the organization has looked disorganized for most of the offseason.

Until Detroit gets its front office sorted out, don't expect this one to move quickly.

For now, Larkin remains a Red Wing, Hughes is still a Wild defenseman with no extension in sight, and the Devils are watching from the outside hoping it all breaks their way.
